Small group of members celebrating 100 workouts together at Alloy Personal Training

Small group personal training is personal training that happens to be shared. You train in a session of no more than six people, but you aren't doing a class workout. You're doing your own program, built from your assessment, while a coach watches your form, adjusts your loads, and modifies anything your body isn't ready for.

It sits between one-on-one training and group fitness classes, and for most adults it gets the best of both: the individual coaching of a personal trainer at a cost you can keep up for years, plus a small group of people who expect to see you. For the full case for the format, including how it compares on cost, see our personal training page.

Our studio is at 6805 B York Ave S in Edina's Southdale area, by Cub Foods and minutes from Southdale Center, with session times built around work and family schedules.

What Happens in a 55-Minute Session

Every session is coach-led from start to finish.

Nobody wanders the floor wondering what to do next, and nobody gets left behind because the class moved on.

How Six Different Programs Run in One Room

This is the question we hear most. The group shares a coach and a time slot, not a workout. Your program is built from your Starting Point Session and adjusted as you progress, so two people training side by side are often doing completely different work.

Capping the group at six is what makes that possible. It's a number one coach can actually watch. It also means your coach knows every person in the room: who has a cranky shoulder, who is easing back after time off, and who is ready to add weight this week.

Your First Month

1

Starting Point Session

A free, no-pressure session where your coach assesses how you move, talks through your goals and history, and gives you a baseline InBody body composition scan.

2

Your Program

Your coach builds your program around that assessment: the movements you're ready for, the ones to build toward, and anything to work around.

3

Train and Progress

You train in small group sessions while your coach progresses your program as you get stronger. Repeat InBody scans show what's changing beneath the scale.

Who Trains in a Small Group

Our studio is built for adults 40 to 70-plus, and the people in a session rarely look alike:

Meet Your Coach

Brett Jacobson, Assistant Director. Brett holds a B.S. in Kinesiology from Iowa State University and is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. He brings a background in rehabilitation to every session and was named 2024 Coach of the Year.

Training is one part of the system. Membership also includes nutrition coaching and InBody body composition scans. Want to lock in founding rates? See our Founding Membership.

Common Questions

Will I be working out in a big group or getting personal attention?

Sessions are limited to six people per coach, so you get individual attention throughout the session, plus the motivation and support of the people training alongside you.

What does a typical session look like?

Every session is about 55 minutes and coach-led from start to finish: a guided warm-up, strength training from your own program scaled to your level, and coaching throughout to keep you safe and progressing.

Do I have to be in shape already to join?

Not at all. Alloy is built for people who are starting out, starting over, or getting back into training after time away. We meet you where you are, with programming tailored to your abilities, experience, and goals.

Is this like CrossFit or a bootcamp?

No. There are no competitions, no leaderboards, and no pushing through pain. Alloy is structured strength training with a coach who knows your name and your limits, in groups small enough that nothing gets missed.

How often should I train?

Your coach will recommend a frequency during your Starting Point Session based on your goals and schedule. For reference, the CDC recommends muscle-strengthening activity at least two days a week for adults. (CDC: Adult Activity)

What if I have an injury or a joint replacement?

Tell us at your Starting Point Session. Coaches modify or substitute exercises around injuries and limitations. If you're under the care of a doctor or physical therapist, we'll ask for their clearance and work within their guidance.

Can I train with my spouse or a friend?

Yes. You can book the same session times, and each of you still gets your own program.

What's included in a membership?

Coach-led small group sessions, nutrition coaching, and InBody body composition scans. We don't publish rates online. Your coach will walk you through membership options after your Starting Point Session.
